This tutorial shows you how to set up Microsoft Outlook 2003 to work with your e-mail account using the POP3 protocol.
Before getting started
- Make a note of your username, password and incoming and outgoing server details as you will need them when following this guide.
- Your username (your email address) and password were provided to you when you signed up for the service.
- Server settings can be found in the domain level control panel – we recommend that you print them out for reference:
To Set Up Your E-mail Account in Microsoft Outlook 2003 (POP3)
In Microsoft Outlook, select Tools > E-mail Accounts.
On the E-mail Accounts wizard window, select “Add a new e-mail account” and click Next.
For your server type, select “POP3” and click Next.
On the Internet E-mail Settings (POP3) window, enter your information as follows:
- Your Name (enter your first and last name)
- E-mail Address (enter your email address e.g. email@example.com)
- User Name (enter your e-mail address, again)
- Password (enter the password provided when you set-up your email account or the new one if you have changed it since your email account was created.)
- Incoming mail server (IMAP) (enter the incoming mail server which you copied from the initial step at the start of this guide)
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP) (enter the outgoing mail server which you copied from the initial step at the start of this guide)
You must tell your email program to use Authenticated SMTP otherwise you will not be able to send emails – to do this click “More Settings”:
- On the Internet E-mail Settings window, select the “Outgoing Server” tab.
- Select “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.”
- Select “Use same settings as my incoming mail server”.
(Whilst still with the Internet E-Mail Settings window open)
Click on the Advanced tab and select “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)”. Ensure that “Root folder path” is empty.
